Leonardo & The Polymath, though it is a very truncated version of the initial vision of The Polymathic Institute, is still too large to be properly implemented by one person. This is particularly true of us Polymaths who are really only happy if we are working on several things simultaneously. For this reason, even the initial plan will require several participants.
As they develop, Leonardo & The Polymath will be ad supported. However, in order to grow it to sufficient size to be viable on that basis, it will need to be supported by various types of patrons. Primary among these will be crowdfunders who will 'buy' prepaid ads in The Polymath that will be converted to shares in Polymathica Media Corporation, LLC.
Of course, a bit of funding is only part of what is needed. We need Leonardos. And in order to acquire Leonardos, we need people who will recruit them. It is harder than it may seem. We will also need subscribers to The Polymath. What this means is that I will need at least two other part-time participants, one dedicated to building Leonardo and one to become 'Editor-in-Chief' for The Polymath.
My thoughts are that both of them (and me) will need to promote the crowdfunding and that a nominal income will be deducted from the proceeds (say about $20 per hour). We start with a commitment of 10 hours per week and proceed from there. Payments, of course, will be based upon minimum results.
Additionally, we will be provide for anyone so interested, a 10% commission on contributions they find at the $1,000 and $3,000 level. If we succeed in building Leonardo & The Polymath, these contributions will be converted into hundreds of thousands of USD of equity in Polymathica Media Corp.
For many of our fans, this will likely entail no more than passing on a link to people they know with the financial resources and inclination to invest in such ventures. Unless they are already marketers of early round funding opportunities, I would not suggest going beyond that.
I will attempt to focus about two hours per day to these activities and as much as is productive on finding these higher level donors. They are an essential component of our success. The $3,000 donors will receive membership on the Editorial Board for two years. This is intended to allow substantial donors to play a significant role in the implementation of The Polymath.
At lower contribution levels, contributors will be placed in a discussion group called 'The Polymath'. It will be a Facebook group to begin with but will be transferred to its own domain when funds are available for it.
Leonardo will be a network of approximately 300 intellectually sophisticated writers who will cooperate in building a viral network. The Polymath will be a weekly pdf magazine providing intellectually sophisticated analysis and commentary.
